The Dan Banks Quintet

“Without mimicry, Banks reimagines the indomitable spirit of such masters as Red Garland, Wynton Kelly, Bobby Timmons, Horace Silver and their peers.”

—Jack Bowers (All About Jazz)

Two In a Box is Dan’s debut album and introduces his quintet, featuring some of the UK’s finest jazz musicians: Roberto Manzin (tenor saxophone), Paul Higgs (trumpet), José Canha (double bass), and Joshua Law (drums).

The album consists of seven original compositions from Dan and is remindful of the classic Blue Note sound of Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, while also containing a flavour of modernity reminiscent of the Kyle Eastwood Quintet and Christian McBride’s ‘Inside Straight’.

In Dec 2018, Dan released his second album, Simulated Cities. Akin to the first album much of the material is reminiscent of the Blue Note era; however, some tracks (such as ‘Prince of Sorcery’) move towards a more characteristic harmonic and melodic landscape, perhaps evoking the 1960s Miles Davis quintet.
